Heinz-Dieter Kessler founded Kessler Plastics GmbH in 1988 as a small service company in the tranquil town of Kredenbach near Kreuztal. The small company made a name for itself in the region with reliable contract work and has since developed into a qualified full-service provider in the field of injection molding. Equipped with modern machinery and over 120 employees, the company is now managed by the founder's son, Michael Kessler.
Kessler Plastics GmbH has changed over time and boldly adapted to the market. In addition to its core business of injection molding and contract manufacturing, the plastics specialists offer customers a comprehensive, end-to-end solution—ranging from CAD design for tool molds and the development of initial prototypes to mold production and series production. Michael Kessler has also taken a bold look at the field of additive manufacturing, recognizing many advantages for himself and his customers and thus discovering 3D printing for himself. Since then, Kessler Plastics GmbH has been using the Markforged Mark Two carbon fiber 3D printer.

The challenge
Kessler Plastics GmbH has set itself the task of offering its customers better and faster access to prototypes without having to produce new, costly injection molds. Development cycles should be accelerated or even reduced. In addition, the requirements for prototypes are particularly high—the goal was to produce dimensionally accurate prototypes of first-class quality with properties comparable to those of the subsequent injection molding material in order to make the feasibility and economic efficiency of future series production perfectly calculable.
