Revolutionary application of ONYX at PA Automation: 100 % aluminum component replacement

PA Automation has made a name for itself in the tranquil town of Königsbach-Stein, near Pforzheim. Specializing in custom machines, robot systems, and automation systems, the company has made a groundbreaking decision: replacing almost all aluminum components with ONYX.

The reasons for this innovative step are diverse and convincing:

  • Elimination of setup times: Compared to conventional manufacturing, ONYX eliminates tedious setup times—a key factor in increasing efficiency.
  • Cost-efficient, largely unmanned production: ONYX not only enables cost savings but also largely automated production, leading to a significant reduction in labor costs.
  • Lightweight components with aluminum strength: The components created with ONYX are not only lighter but also exhibit mechanical strength comparable to aluminum—a decisive advantage for mechanical engineering.

The lightness of the components brings additional advantages. The overall structure of the machines is significantly lighter, which in turn has a positive impact on performance. In particular, the running characteristics when unwinding punch tapes are improved because the ONYX parts are more flexible.

In an astonishingly short period of just four months, the Mark3D – Markforged Printfarm has expanded its capacity. The fleet now includes two X7 printers, one Mark Two, and one Onyx One printer.

“Compared to machining, where there were always lots of chips around the milling machine, this is the cleanest production I have ever been in!” enthuses Marcel Andrejewski.
