3,2,1 READY FOR LAUNCH! Successful 3D printing of a satellite

For former NASA scientist and eternal 3D printing nerd Tony Boschi, the satellite is about to be launched on the market.

Tony and the team at Sidus Space have spent the last four years working on LizzieSat, a partially 3D-printed satellite scheduled to launch on SpaceX's Transporter 9 rocket in 2023.

Throughout the design and build process, Sidus found that Markforged materials and parts met the rigorous standards required for space travel—from strength and traceability to economy and speed.

Now, for the next five years after launch, Markforged parts will orbit our little blue planet Earth.

How do you make components lighter but also stronger at the same time?
Not many people think about the weight of a screw.

Sidus Space has manufactured a satellite using a Markforged 3D printer. Carbon fiber components are stronger, lighter, and more cost-effective than machined aluminum.

Every part is questioned and optimized.

"I've been working with additive manufacturing for about 25 years now. I've seen so many 3D printers. So many materials. One day the part comes out of the 3D printer like this, the next day like that. And you try to figure out what I'm doing wrong with the parts. Whenever I print with Onyx, every single part always comes out exactly as it should." – Tony Boschi

What an exciting time to be alive and reinventing manufacturing.
