When it was founded in 1997, BODUK’s predecessor company was the first Japanese website to focus on the import, development and sale of drones and other radio-controlled equipment to consumers. When President Houe Ohta foresaw a decline in drone popularity, pivoted the company on the growing market for industrial drones. He launched BODUK Co., Ltd. in 2002 to focus on designing and developing unique products to enhance infrastructure inspections.

By investing in additive manufacturing with Markforged 3D printers, BODUK reduced its drone manufacturing time to between one-half and one-third of the original duration, a significant improvement primarily driven by more efficient use of materials and labour.
