The Markforged Onyx Pro

The Markforged Onyx Pro is a professional desktop 3D printer designed to produce strong, functional composite parts using Onyx termoplastic and continuous fibreglass reinforcement.

Combining fused filament fabrication (FFF) with Markforged’s Continuous Filament Fabrication (CFF) technology, the Onyx Pro allows engineers and manufacturers to produce fibreglass-reinforced parts directly in-house. The Onyx Pro combines two complementary materials to create strong composite parts.

Onyx provides a rigid, precise thermoplastic base, while continuous fibreglass can be added within the printed part to increase its mechanical performance. Fibre reinforcement can be incorporated into the part where additional strength is required, allowing engineers to produce lightweight components with a high strength-to-weight ratio.

The Onyx Pro also supports Precise PLA and Smooth TPU as plastic materials, giving users additional options for different applications.

A kinematically coupled print bed is flat to within 160 μm, while the second-generation extrusion system includes out-of-plastic detection to help monitor the printing process.
