Mark3D GmbH and Mark3D UK Ltd become the first Backflip AI resellers worldwide, bringing AI-powered CAD and reverse engineering technology to customers across Europe including the UK
Mark3D GmbH and Mark3D UK Ltd are proud to announce the signing of the first reseller agreements worldwide with Backflip AI, marking the beginning of a new partnership that will bring Backflip’s AI-powered engineering technology to customers across the UK, Central and Northern Europe and parts of Eastern Europe.
The agreement brings together two organisations with a shared background in engineering technology and a common ambition to make the journey from physical component or legacy engineering data to usable 3D CAD faster and more accessible.
Backflip AI is developing a new generation of AI-native tools for physical engineering. Its revolutionary foundation model creates parametric 3D models with full feature trees, editable in the user’s preferred CAD package. Using inputs including 3D scan data, mesh files, 2D engineering drawings and even photos, Backflip AI can significantly reduce the manual work traditionally involved in recreating physical parts or legacy engineering data in CAD.
For Mark3D, the partnership represents a natural extension of its growing solutions-led approach to advanced manufacturing.
Across Mark3D GmbH and Mark3D UK Ltd, the team brings extensive experience spanning CAD and SOLIDWORKS, industrial additive manufacturing with Markforged, and professional 3D scanning with Artec 3D. Adding Backflip AI introduces an important new element: intelligent automation between existing physical or engineering data and editable 3D CAD.
Daniel Held, Group CEO of Mark3D, said:
“Backflip is an incredibly exciting addition to the Mark3D portfolio because it connects areas in which we already have many years of experience – CAD, 3D scanning and additive manufacturing.
“What is particularly important to us is that Backflip isn’t simply creating a 3D representation of a part. It creates parametric CAD with a full feature tree that engineers can take into their preferred CAD environment and continue working with. We understand how important that distinction is to an engineer and to making this technology genuinely useful within real manufacturing workflows. And this is only the beginning. Based on what we have already seen from the Backflip AI foundation model, we expect a lot to come based on this capability, and in weeks not years!
“We see enormous potential in making the journey from a physical component through to editable CAD dramatically faster. It opens up new possibilities for reverse engineering, legacy part replacement, product development and digital manufacturing.
“There is also something particularly special about working with Greg, Ken and the Backflip team again. We know their track record for challenging conventional engineering processes, and I’m delighted that Mark3D has been chosen as Backflip’s first reseller partner worldwide.”
A partnership built on complementary engineering expertise
The relationship brings together teams with considerable shared history within the additive manufacturing industry.
Backflip was founded by a team with deep experience in hardware, software, AI and advanced manufacturing, including Markforged founder Gregory Mark. The company is building an AI-native engine for physical engineering, designed to bridge the gap between digital design and the physical world.
For Backflip AI, Mark3D’s combination of technical expertise and established relationships within European manufacturing provides a strong platform for bringing this technology to professional engineering users.
Greg Mark, Co-Founder and CEO of Backflip AI, said:
“Mark3D combines the exact expertise we were looking for in a launch reseller: a deep understanding of CAD, additive manufacturing and professional 3D scanning – backed by years of experience helping manufacturers implement new technologies. We’re excited to work together again to bring Backflip to engineering teams across Europe including the UK.”
Connecting engineering data, CAD and manufacturing
One of the most significant opportunities for the partnership lies in reverse engineering and the reuse of legacy engineering data.
Professional 3D scanners can capture complex physical components with exceptional levels of detail, but converting that scan data into usable, editable CAD has traditionally required considerable engineering time and specialist expertise. Similarly, many manufacturers hold valuable engineering information in archives of 2D technical drawings without corresponding 3D CAD models.
Backflip AI uses artificial intelligence to reconstruct this existing data as parametric CAD geometry, with editable features, sketches and constraints.
Combined with Mark3D’s expertise in professional Artec 3D scanning technology, CAD and industrial additive manufacturing, this creates the potential for a much more connected engineering workflow – from physical part to 3D scan, from scan or drawing to editable CAD, and from CAD into manufacture.
Applications range from recreating legacy components where original CAD data no longer exists, through to tooling, spare parts, product development, inspection and redesign.
Expanding Mark3D’s solutions-led offering
The agreement represents another step in Mark3D’s evolution from a technology supplier towards a broader engineering solutions partner.
Alongside its established expertise in Markforged industrial 3D printing and Artec 3D scanning, the addition of Backflip AI enables Mark3D to support customers across more of the digital engineering workflow – helping businesses capture, recreate, modify and ultimately manufacture physical components.
Under the new reseller agreements, Mark3D GmbH and Mark3D UK Ltd will bring Backflip AI to customers across the UK, Central and Northern Europe and parts of Eastern Europe, supported by the companies’ existing engineering expertise, application knowledge and customer support infrastructure.
Ian Weston, Co-Founder & Managing Director of Mark3D UK Ltd, added:
“For us, this isn’t simply about adding another product to the portfolio. It’s about bringing together technologies that solve a real engineering problem.
“If we can help customers move more quickly from the physical world into editable CAD and then into production, we can remove a significant bottleneck from the reverse engineering process. Backflip gives us another important part of that workflow and strengthens the solutions we can offer our customers.”
What could Backflip AI do with your engineering data?
Mark3D has already begun putting Backflip AI through its paces, including testing existing 2D technical drawings and using them to generate fully featured 3D models ready for further engineering in Autodesk Fusion and other CAD environments.
Together with Backflip’s scan-to-CAD capabilities, this opens up exciting possibilities for manufacturers sitting on years, or even decades, of legacy engineering data.
Whether your starting point is an existing physical component, a 3D scan or an old engineering drawing, the goal is the same: get to usable, editable 3D CAD faster.
